CSULB NPHC: Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.Zeta Phi Beta Crest

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority was founded January 16, 1920 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. by five distinguished collegiate women.

These five women chartered Zeta Phi Beta Sorority to encourage the highest standard of scholarship through scientific, literary, cultural and educational programs; promote service projects on college campuses and in the community; foster sisterhood and exemplify the indal of Finer Womanhood.

The trail blazed by the founders has been traversed by thousands of women dedicated to the emulation of the objectives and ideals of the Sorority.

Since it's inception, the sorority has chronicled a number of "first" among the established historically African American sororities.

In addition to being the only organization constitutionally bound to a fraternity, the sorority was the first to charter international chapters, those in West Africa and Germany; to form adult and youth auxiliary groups, the Amicae, Archinettes, Amicettes and Pearletts.

Eight ambitious and determined women founded the Delta Eta chapter on November 10, 1975. Through the years Delta Eta chapter has established many campus programs that have transcended the test of time.

The chapter also participates in several annual events within Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated and in the greater Los Angeles area. Delta Eta's campus activities include:

  • Zeta Week and Sigma Week
  • Mac Arthur Park Halloween Carnival
  • Thanksgiving Food Baskets
  • Christmas Cloths Drive
Among Delta Eta's most memorable programs include:
  • Bring the world renowned Political activist Angela Davis to campus
  • Bringing the Zora Neal Hurston, "Jump at the Sun" Exhibit from Eatonville, Florida.
As members of the "Divine Nine" organizations that make up the NPHC, Delta Eta chapter believes in working with others to progress forward to create a strong Black Community on the campus of California State University, Long Beach.
