In 1990 the international presidents of the affiliate fraternities and sororities collectively decided to eliminate 'pledging' as a condition of membership in their respective organizations.

A membership intake process has been implemented within each NPHC member organization, a process that eliminates pledging as a requirement for initiation.

As such, there are to be no "lines," "pledges," and certainly no hazing as a requirement for membership into any of the NPHC organizations.

Any student who knows of any "pledging" activity should immediately contact the office of Student Life & Development and the national fraternity or sorority headquarters immediately.

Membership to a NPHC fraternity or sorority is a life-long commitment, not just a college experience.

The majority of each member's fraternal experience is as an alumni member.

It is important that each interested student take the time to learn about the history, aims and national programs of each organization to fully appreciate and understand the depth of Black Greek Letter Organizations.

Each affiliate organization implements the guidelines and details of its own membership intake process.
